Some produce OK output in some situations, useless in others.

We have tested every one we could find on a variety of file types including text, CAD, photos, etc. PDF creator/editor products that compete with Acrobat. PDF quality under all circumstances and the absolute minimum file size output - you can get it by paying the big bucks for "real" Acrobat.
The best bet is Adobe Acrobat Pro/Premium (whatever they're calling it now). PDF creators, converters, whatever are all over the place. It has been reverse-engineered by everyone else and as such the quality and accuracy of all the various. PDF franchise, it's not an open standard.
